That's when I realized that digital compressors can sound better than the best analog ones, and how they do it is by not trying to emulate the analog behavior. So, I definitely have my own biases, but I say they are legit. Ozone maximizer, on IRC for modern, with slow attack, was pretty much the tool that replaced any reason to use glue compression or multi-band compression. I kept on testing the good ones, every once in a while, just to reaffirm that I did not want to use compression as long as any other process could help us solve whatever they were trying to achieve. I had pretty much quit using compression in my mastering process, for two years, until buttercomp2. but even the best digital ones were just a little bit not as good as the hardware units of which they were emulating. and I found a few that were my favorite digital ones. I actually had gone through maybe two hundred different compressors, and searching for the best one, from all the best companies. until airwundows recently came out with ButterComp2. I have used almost every compressor on the market, and I never had found a digital compressor that could compete with the analog ones not that. The only reason that I would ever give them another chance is to compare their compressors with others, and they airwindows ones.īut, personally, I feel that the extra intensity of CPU is not worth using plugins that are either slightly worse or slightly better than many of the other industry leaders.

but making fake loudness in a way that actually causes results that are actually bad, but our ears are being tricked into not noticing it. It kind of reminds me of how waves maxxbass creates fake bass harmonics in a way that other tools can't. It wasn't the company, that lied directly to my face, but there was deception from places that had reviews and comparisons. When I found out that tests showed that the perceivably louder results from one of their limiters was actually causing some damage to happen. I might have a reason to give them another chance, at some point, but I doubt it. Sorry for any typing errors, I used to voice to text, and was in a hurry. Compressor after the EQ (Defaults that way) Ratio of 4:1 with slow attack, release of. Hi Mid: +3.2 db at 2.2 k with default Q (noon) Low Mid: -7.0 db at 400 hz with the tightest Q Low: +6.7 db at 49hz with Peak enabled (bell) YMMV depending on the kick drum and recording Here are the settings I used with the "B" button lit. It is a little more of a CPU hog than others (1.6% cpu for a stereo instance with everything on) Additionally, the channel has mid side capability, which is unique on an SSL style channel. I also like the dynamics section of the White Channel. I really like the Waves G channel, but I am not overly fond of the x3 /3 switches, it makes me have to stop and think. I read the manual, and it says the "B" button on the eq applies the curves of the SSL G channel. I was able to get a great tight low end punch without the mud.

I pulled out the white channel, engaged the "B" button on the EQ, and found the sound I was looking for. they all sounded good, but not great for whatever reason. None of my usual go to's were doing it for me. I was recently trying to get a kick drum to sit correctly in the mix. You guys are great!! Love this stuff!! With a great room, great monitors, and a great DAC, and TRAINED EARS!! anything is possible!!

I would probably supplement T-Racks with the free TDR plugins though

I could definitely be comfortable if I had a 40 foot by 20 foot room that was built with an acoustician, with a pair of Duntech Sovereigns driven by powerful amps through a Prism Dream DAC, a Mac laptop, and only had $200 left in my budget and picked up T-Racks for $199 and I think I could do incredible masters. Its almost like having a Formula 1 mechanic saying that a roll of cheap duct tape is never even worth at minimum having around because you feel you can ALWAYS find something better. Alicia Keys! Pete Rock Soul Survivor II!! What!! I have followed Dave and his work is great and highly credible. I remember once hearing Dave Kutch in an interview on Pensado's Place say that in several situations T-Racks Multiband Compressor was a pleasant surprise and the perfect tool of choice to get a project done.
